One of the most ferocious of the dinosaurs was the terrible seven-ton meat-eating tyrannosaurus rex, which literally means "king of the tyrant lizards."
Tyrannosaurus was the largest predator ever. It stood almost 20 feet tall on its rear legs, had a massive tail, puny front legs, powerful jaws and sharp seven-inch-long saw-edged teeth for tearing its prey, such as the plant-eating triceratops. From nose to tail tyrannosaurus was about 39 feet long. Its skull alone is more than four feet long. Though powerful in many ways, tyrannosaurus' front legs were very short and must have had very minimal use since he couldn't even use them to bring food to his mouth.
Though some scientists believe tyrannosaurus was a scavenger, most believe he was a terrible hunter, swift on his back feet and ferocious in battle.
Tyrannosaurus skeletons have been found in Western North America, Mongolia and China.
